History

Santour is
one of the oldest Iranian musical instrument , so it is used in
many countries. It's a string instrument with seventy two (72)
strings. Santour is trapezoidal shape and played by two
plectrums (Mezrab) .The oldest signs and images from Santour come
back to the ancient Buble and Ashour carvings and paintings and
they show an instrument like Santour that it was hung by strip
from the player shoulders and neck.

Amir Hamzeh Rezaee (b.1959 Yazd) an
Iranian Santour maker who brought the craft of
Santour making to it's highest pitch of perfection. His interest in
Santour
structure led him to meet the grand Santour maker
and musician Mahdi Nazemi.
Rezaee continued his research as a student of Nazemi for
seven (7) years and made a great progress in making high
quality Santour that
Nazemi has
told :
 "Mr. Amir Hamzeh Rezaee has worked with me and made
the best and excellent Santour with high quality like
me." |
